NHL Rumors: Trouba – Wings, Leafs, Ducks, Bruins, Rangers and Avs
Jacob Trouba of the Winnipeg Jets and Darren Helm of the Detroit Red Wings

Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press: The Detroit Red Wings could use an upgrade on their blueline, and James thinks the Red Wings should absolutely be interested in Jacob Trouba. The Wings would need to find a way to clear some cap space.

It could cost at least three pieces to trade for Trouba, including a first round pick. Dylan Larkin is untouchable, and Anthony Mantha should be too.

If the Jets want a left-handed defenseman, the Wings would have to offer Danny DeKeyser in a package.

Jason Brough of Pro Hockey Talk: The Red Wings are a team that could be interested in the 22-year old Trouba. Larkin is untouchable, but Gustav Nyquist and Tomas Tatar are probably available. Andreas Athanasiou or Anthony Mantha could interest the Jets.

Would the Red Wings be willing to trade the 26-year old Danny DeKeyser? DeKeyser is under contract for six more seasons at a $5 million cap hit.

Damien Cox of the Toronto Star: First off, asking/demanding a trade doesn’t mean the player will get traded – see Patrick Marleau, Travis Hamonic and Jonathan Drouin.

Anaheim makes sense for Trouba. There were rumors of Cam Fowler being available.

Travis Hamonic for Trouba has been brought up before, but Hamonic has four years left on a cap friendly deal.

The Maple Leafs aren’t a perfect fit. The Jets might like left-handed Morgan Rielly, but Trouba wouldn’t be an upgrade for the Leafs over Rielly. The Leafs do have plenty of good prospects, with William Nylander an option. If the Jets are looking for a more immediate player, James van Riemsdyk has two year left on his deal at a good number.

The Maple Leafs also have their 2017 first round pick. Top rated Nolan Patrick is from Winnipeg. There is no guarantee the pick will be No. 1. Doing something like this hasn’t worked out well for the Leafs – see Scott Niedermayer, Roberto Luongo, and Tyler Seguin.

As of now, the Leafs don’t appear to near the top of the list of teams likely to land Trouba.

Adam Gretz of Pro Hockey Talk: Looking at four possible landing spots for Jacob Trouba.

Anaheim Ducks – the Ducks don’t really need to upgrade their blueline, but Hampus Lindholm is the type of player the Jets would like to replace Trouba with.

Boston Bruins – the Bruins blueline is their weakest link and could use a player like Trouba in their top four.

New York Rangers – the Rangers don’t have a lot of cap space and have traded away prospects and draft picks in recent years. Brady Skjei is a left-handed defenseman, but he’s not a Trouba comparable.

Colorado Avalanche – the Avs have some nice young forwards, but their blueline is a question mark. The problem for the Avs with regards to adding Trouba is that they already have right-handed shots in Tyson Barrie and Erik Johnson. There is the argument that he’s at least better than Johnson.
