NHL Rumors: Jacob Trouba Trade Request Fallout

Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun: Jacob Trouba last night after his trade request was made public.

“I didn’t want it to get to this point,” Trouba said in a telephone interview on Saturday night. “I wanted to keep everything out of the media and keep it professional. Now that we’re here, what it really comes down to for me is opportunity.”

There will be plenty of teams interested trading for Trouba, though it might be challenge for the Jets to get fair value for someone who has requested a trade.

Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet: When asked if there was a specific team he wanted to play for, Trouba responded.

“A place where I have the ability to reach my potential as a right shot D. There’s plenty of need for that in this league. I’ve played on the right side for 18 years. As a 22-year-old, I don’t have the opportunity to do it in Winnipeg.”

Some sources have said that the drafting of Patrik Laine complicated a Trouba trade as Laine gave the Jets something they didn’t already have. It raised the asking price according to one executive.

Ken Wiebe: Trouba said last night that he’ll train and skate in Detroit.

Bob McKenzie: It was thought that at the end of last season Trouba requested a trade, but the Jets nor his agent would confirm it.

Bob McKenzie: There will be significant interest in Trouba. If the Jets do trade him, they will be looking for a big haul.

Bob McKenzie: The list of teams interested will be long. The Arizona Coyotes have been interested in Trouba in the past and will likely be a serious suitor.

Craig Morgan: Trouba is a player the Coyotes have been interest in, in the past. They are still interested.

Erik Erlendsson: Of course the Tampa Bay Lightning will be interested in Trouba. They have the assets to trade for him, and he’s a right handed defenseman. It won’t be cheap to trade for him and there will be lots of interest.

Craig Custance: Ideal trade would see the Jets getting a comparable, young left-handed defenseman in return. It’s not an easy deal to make though. Thomas Drance: Short list of players who fit Custance’s description: Rielly, Lindholm, maybe T.J Brodie? Oscar Klefbom+? Colin Miller++?

Jim Matheson: The Oilers could use another right-handed defenseman, but they are not going to trade Darnell Nurse for him. The Oilers like Nurse too much, so don’t think they’d give him up for Trouba.

Jim Matheson: If the Jets do trade Trouba, it will be on their timetable. The Jets have to get a left-handed defenseman for him.

Darren Dreger: Not a surprise that there are several teams that are interested in Trouba.

General Fanager: As a restricted free agent, if Trouba is not signed by December 1st, he is not eligible to play this season.
