On the Winnipeg Jets and Jacob Trouba …
Bob McKenzie of TSN: It’s “status quo” for Winnipeg Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff and Jacob Trouba’s agent Kurt Overhardt.
The December 1st deadline for RFAs to be eligible to play in the NHL this season is approaching fast.
The Jets know what teams are willing to offer for Trouba, and they haven’t liked any offers yet. The Trouba trade front is all quiet at the moment.
McKenzie notes that if he were Trouba, some things he would be thinking about include:
– On a $5.5 million salary, each day missed is approximately a $30,000 hit, or about $600,000 to date.
– If there’s not a fair-market value deal on the table already, there easily could be one.
– There’s not been a lot of trade chatter to suggest a deal is imminent or even likely at this point.
– The club is getting by without the player.
– The Dec. 1 deadline is only four weeks from this Thursday and almost three weeks of the season has already passed.
McKenzie thinks that Trouba has two options.
- Stay on the same path and maintain that he won’t play for the Jets, hope the Jets falter before December 1st and that they need to make the move.
- Realizing that his trade demand may not be worth potentially missing the entire season, and sign a deal with the Jets that minimizes the the salary he’s already lost.
On the Boston Bruins and Jacob Trouba …
Joe Haggerty of CSNNE: Ryan Spooner’s name has been involved in trade talk according to Sportsnet. Spooner has struggled this season, recording only a goal and assist in seven games.
The Bruins are going to have move someone like Spooner if they want to acquire a top-four defenseman.
Nick Kypreos reported that the Jets were reportedly asking for Spooner, Brandon Carlo and a draft pick for Jacob Trouba.
Kypreos added that, that package would be too much for the Bruins.
