Can the Maple Leafs bring Jake Gardiner back?
James (@Account4hockey): Darren Dreger on TSN said that he doesn’t think that Jake Gardiner will be back with the Maple Leafs.
The Maple Leafs may consider a one or two-year deal, but there have not been any substantial talks between the Leafs and Gardiner’s agent.
Jim Matheson: There many people who think that the Maple Leafs have a contract in their “back pocket” for Gardiner after they find out how much it will cost them to re-sign Mitch Marner.
They would likely have to move out some more salary to bring Gardiner back, but GM Kyle Dubas has been a master at that this offseason.
Maple Leafs Hot Stove: Toronto Maple Leafs GM Kyle Dubas on TSN was asked by Bob McKenzie about defenseman free agent Jake Gardiner. Is there a chance that the Maple Leafs could sign Gardiner.
“I wouldn’t say it’s a zero chance, and I don’t mean to put this on anything else, but until we have a solution to the situation with Mitch…”
On if they are able to get Mitch Marner signed bridge deal at a lower AAV, would there be enough salary cap space.
“I think, at that point, we would go back to Pat and Jake and say perhaps, “Here is what we have.” It may be enticing to them. It may not be. He is a wonderful person and he has been an excellent player for us for a long time. We never want to close that door.”
