On the Chicago Blackhawks and Colorado Avalanche …
Adrian Dater: The Blackhawks are considering winger Jarome Iginla. Would give the Blackhawks more depth/insurance up front.
Mark Lazerus: Adding to Dater’s report … Have heard Iginla’s thrown around, but given the Blackhawks cap situation, may be impossible to make it work.
Mark Lazerus: Even if the Avalanche were to retain salary, the numbers don’t add up. Anything can happen, but it’s a very difficult fit.
Brian Hedger: Another option for the Blackhawks could be pending UFA Martin Hanzal. The 29-year old is 6′ 6″, is versatile and carries a lower salary cap hit than Iginla.
The Fourth Period: The Avs and Blackhawks would have to get creative on an Iginla trade. Radim Vrbata could be another target for the Blackhawks. The right winger only carries a $1 million salary cap hit.
On the Arizona Coyotes …
Craig Morgan of FanRag Sports: Six Coyotes that could be traded by the trade deadline if the return is right.
Martin Hanzal – Center – $3.1 million cap hit. He has a modified no-trade clause, a seven team trade list.
Anthony Duclair – He’s only 21 years old, but only three goals and four assists in 34 games. The asking price has been really high, and the Coyotes can’t give him away.
Mike Smith – could intrigue a team looking to make a push. One problem though is his $5.67 million cap for two more years. The Coyotes don’t really have goalie ready to be the No.1 if they move Smith.
Radim Vrbata – has nine goals in 24 points in 37 games this season and is on a friendly contract. He took a discount to return to Arizona and doesn’t really want to play anywhere else. He doesn’t have a no-trade or no-movement clause.
Michael Stone – the 26-year old is on a one-year, $4 million deal. Has only six assists in 25 games this season. Had offseason knee surgery but might be worth the risk for someone.
Shane Doan – four goals and seven assists in 37 games. Doan hasn’t been thrilled with his ice time and role with the Coyotes this season. He might consider a move to a contender.
