On the Ottawa Senators …
Ian Mendes of TSN: Jarred Cowen was a healthy scratch again last night. His name has been mentioned in trade rumors more than any other Senator leading up the deadline. Cowen realizes that a trade this month is a possibility.
“I’m aware of it, obviously, so if it happens, it happens. I’m not playing today, so obviously it makes it more realistic,” Cowen told TSN.ca. “I don’t know, so we’ll see.”
Cowen said that he doesn’t pay attention to the rumor mill. When asked about a fresh start somewhere else.
“Maybe, I don’t know. My job is to stay here and be as good as I can be for Ottawa,” Cowen said. “Who knows if they’re right or wrong, because I don’t know either. I’ve never been traded in my life, so we’ll see.”
Chris Nichols of Today’s Slapshot: Darren Dreger on TSN 1200 on the Ottawa Senators and the trade deadline. Sens GM Bryan Murray is making calls as he’d like to add a defenseman and it’s well known he’d like a forward as well.
On the Winnipeg Jets …
Gary Lawless: Sounding like the trade market for both Dustin Byfuglien and Andrew Ladd is heating up. If the Jets are not able to sign them, GM Kevin Cheveldayoff will get good value for them. Cheveldayoff wants to re-sign both players, but he can’t do it at any cost. He appears to be well positioned if he has to go down the trade route.
