Jesperi Kotkaniemi is a buy-low trade candidate
Luke Fox of Sportsnet: Sources say that Carolina Hurricanes forward Jesperi Kotkaniemi asked for a trade this past offseason. He has a 10-team no-trade list but would consider all potential teams. His ice time has dropped, he’s losing faceoffs, and his skating has come into question.
The 25-year-old carries $4.82 million cap hit for the next four seasons, with a $5.2 million salary for the final three years of his deal. He is a buy-low trade candidate.

Sportsnet: Elliotte Friedman on the Winnipeg Jets, their struggles, and who they could look at to possibly help turn things around. Carolina Hurricanes Jesperi Kotkaniemi or Andrew Mangiapane could be fit in Winnipeg.

“I think it’s same in Winnipeg. I think they’re just shocked. They like, it’s one thing to lose. Like, everybody loses. Everybody goes through bad moments. Everybody has struggles. But like, like that, and you just feel like your pushback is missing.’
NHL Rumors: Winnipeg Jets, Calgary Flames, San Jose Sharks, and the Toronto Maple Leafs
You’re like, that one in Winnipeg night, like it was going really well. Was 3-1, and the next thing you know, if they’re Ouch, they give up 18 shots in a row, and they’re down, they’re down a goal. Like it’s just like, what happens to you?
Now, you know, there’s some stuff I think we’re watching now. Kotkaniemi, I think the Hurricanes are considering some things. I have wondered, like, I don’t know what the trade would be exactly, but like, he fits Winnipeg’s MO. A guy with four more years of team control. They need forward. They need someone’s a little quicker. But I wonder about that.
I’ve also wondered, he’s not the fastest guy, but he’s only under contract for one more year. I wonder if Mangiapane would make sense for Winnipeg. And I think they’d kick tires around that. Like I do think they’re in that. So, like, I am wondering if one of these moves here could be a Winnipeg move.
