Stephen Whyno: Capitals GM Brian MacLellan on trade talks: “There’s a couple opportunities where I’m trying to stay involved in just to see where it ends up.”
Isabelle Khurshudyan: MacLellan said that he hasn’t heard of a lot of “hockey trades” being talked about. Looking like it’s a rental market.
On the Chicago Blackhawks …
Chris Hine: GM Stan Bowman on the possibility of making more trades: “It’s a little different than previous years where I felt we needed something or we were lacking in an area.”
Scott Powers: GM Bowman said he hasn’t has any talks with Maxim Shalunov’s agent. They will focus on that after the trade deadline.
On the Boston Bruins …
Stephen Harris: Bruins GM Don Sweeney said that he’s talking to teams, but it’s more unlikely than not that they won’t make any trades at the deadline.
On the Montreal Canadiens …
Jimmy Murphy: Numerous insiders – executives, scouts, former players and media – have said that the Canadiens are in a “desperate mode” and are “scrambling.”
On the Pittsburgh Penguins …
Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: Marc-Andre Fleury is the longest serving Pittsburgh Penguin. Fleury hasn’t spoken with GM Jim Rutherford yet about what he thinks about possibly being traded, but will do so soon.
“I’m looking forward to what he has to say, what he thinks, which way the team wants to go,” Fleury said. “Go from there.”
Rutherford has said he would like to keep both Fleury and Matt Murray past the deadline.
E.J. Hradek: Based on Penguins GM Rutherford’s comments yesterday, sounding like there is a good chance Fleury could be traded by the deadline. Fleury would have to agree to the trade.
