On the Winnipeg Jets …
Ted Wyman of the Winnipeg Jets: Wyman doesn’t think the Jets should trade Jacob Trouba just because he’s unhappy and wants out. They’ll have other homegrown talent looking for new contract in the next couple years – Nikolaj Ehlers, Kyle Connor, Connor Hellebuyck and Patrik Laine – and they don’t need to have them and their agents thinking they can push the organization around.
Trouba still hasn’t fully proved himself and he shouldn’t dictate where and how much he plays – he needs to earn it. Using the right-side/left-side thing could just be an excuse and that he simply wants out of Winnipeg.
The Jets should only move if they get what they want – on their terms.
On the Tampa Bay Lightning …
Martin Fennelly of the Tampa Bay Times: The Lightning can’t keep everyone. Ben Bishop will be gone at some point. Fennelly looking at the leading candidates that the Lightning could lose.
1. Bishop. $5.9 million. He was all but gone to Calgary in the offseason.
2. Center Tyler Johnson. $3.3 million. But he is your No. 2 center?
3. Center Val Filppula. $5 million salary. What team is picking up that?
4. Defenseman Jason Garrison. $4.5 million salary. Can the Bolts really spare a defenseman?
On the St. Louis Blues …
Darren Dreger of TSN: Blues head coach doesn’t rule out the possibility of continuing coaching next season.
“That is possible, but that’s in May or June and that’s a long time off and you know I just don’t think at this time…I don’t think it’s fair to do that,” Hitchcock told the Dreger Report. “I’m going to coach like crazy and I want to see how I feel and if I feel different then I will let somebody know. Other than that, I feel like I want to pour it all in now and then take stock at a different time.”
