On the New York Islanders and potential Union College free agents …

Sportsnet: Hockey Night in Canada Headlines – Elliotte Friedman: John Tavares has a year left on his contract, but his long-term status with the New York Islanders could be known by the end of June.

“There were reports this week that if the New York Islanders aren’t moving towards a contract with John Tavares in June, they will look at trading him,” said Elliotte Friedman during the Headlines segment on Hockey Night in Canada.

There are reports that the Islanders may be looking again to bring in Tavares’ agent to the organization.

“Pat Brisson, Tavares’s agent, was in New York this week,” Friedman explained. “Now, last summer it was reported that they offered Brisson the job running their hockey ops and more in their organization. There were rumours this week when Brisson was there that they were trying to do it again in order to make Tavares feel better.”

Nick Kypreos: The Islanders new ownership’s top priority is to find a home for the organization, with getting John Tavares to a long-term extension their second priority.

Elliotte Friedman: A number of Canadian teams will be looking at potential college free agents in Spencer Foo, Mike Vecchione and Nick DeSimone. All three play for Union College.

On the Philadelphia Flyers …

Sam Carchidi: Vecchione will be heading to his parents home in Mass. to talk about his future. The Flyers are a strong candidate to sign him.

On the Arizona Coyotes …

Andy Strickland: The Coyotes could have first round pick Clayton Keller signed today and could be in the lineup against the Blues.

Sarah McLellan: GM John Chayka has said they will look to sign Keller when his college season is over. The Coyotes think he’s ready to go pro.

On the Colorado Avalanche …

John Shannon: Have been told that there have been no contract talks between the Avalanche and Tyson Yost as of yet.
