Jordan Binnington and the next contract

Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic:  How much of a raise should a goalie like Jordan Binnington garner after winning the Stanley Cup? T

he closest comparable was Andrew Hammond but Hammond faded in round one of the playoffs. Hammond saw a raise to $1.35 million AAV. However, Binnington again guided a team to that cherished trophy.

Again, St. Louis pinned in a tough spot has a decision to make. They need Jordan Binnington to not regress a ton as Jake Allen is little more than insurance now.

Matt Murray was another example but his extension did not kick in until the following year. Needless to say, the Blues pony up to pay Binnington but the term may be the real question.

Dale Tallon, the Panthers, and the first-round pick?

George Richards of The Athletic (Q&A):  Dale Tallon holds on to his first-round picks like prized jewels. That brought mixed results in the draft but as anyone knows, the draft is a crapshoot. It would take quite an offer to get Florida to budge from the 13th pick.

One interesting thing is Tallon mentioning how calls have heated up over the past few weeks. Tallon made it clear that Florida will get better by any means necessary — whether it be free agency or trade.

Just a few free agents and Joe Pavelski?

Mike Chambers of the Denver Post:  Alas, Joe Sakic knows he needs secondary scoring and free agency may be the way to go. Since Matt Duchene is a hard pass and Jeff Skinner re-signed with Buffalo, why not Joe Pavelski? Though Doug Wilson expects to do everything to try and keep the forward, it may be a challenge.

The chances Colorado signs Pavelski are admittedly slim. However, Colorado expects to at least kick the tires. Cap space exists and is bountiful. Anders Lee remains a player at least on the fringe of the radar screen and has a net-front presence like a Pavelski.

Matt Larkin: If Pavelski goes to free agency, the Colorado Avalanche would be a good landing spot for him. They have the cap space and is exactly what they need.
