Jake Muzzin could net the LA Kings a nice return. Could the Carolina Hurricanes be interested in Vladimir Tarasenko?

Muzzin is a trade asset for the Kings that could land a nice return

Josh Cooper of The Athletic: If the Los Angeles Kings decided to trade defenseman Jake Muzzin, he’d be one player who would bring them back a nice return. He has a year left at a $4 million cap hit.

“He is tradeable 1) because he’s playing well, 2) because he’s got a somewhat favorable salary and those guys are certainly in demand. So I think that they’re going to blow things up there,” an NHL team scout said. “Who knows? Maybe they think that they’re not so far away. They might think totally different, but I think you’ll see them try to blow things up a little bit.”

The 29-year old Muzzin hopes he’s able to remain with the Kings.

The Kings do have a lot of money tied up in their veterans and Muzzin will be looking for a big deal after next season.

Muzzin is a legit top-three, top-four defenseman.

Friedman’s rumor roundup

Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet: If Joel Quenneville is wanting to coach a team that contends right away his best option would be to let the next six months play out.

There have been a few teams that have contacted the Philadelphia Flyers about Ron Hextall.

The Colorado Avalanche have a lot of assets at their disposal if they want to make a move if they think they have a shot. They could use some depth.

Sounding like the Carolina Hurricanes are debating on St. Louis Blues forward Vladimir Tarasenko. Would the Blues be looking to Martin Necas as part of the deal?

Would the Vegas Golden Knights be interested in Blues forward Brayden Schenn?

Former NHLers Mikhail Grigorenko and Nikita Nesterov could be thinking about returning to the NHL.

Talk is there are a few teams that might be interested in former Sabres Viktor Antipin.

If the Washington Capitals are going to trade Andre Burakovsky, they aren’t interested in getting futures in return – unless they know they could move those futures immediately for immediate help.

The Vancouver Canucks are better in the short-term if they extend/keep defensemen Alex Edler and Chris Tanev. The Canucks long-term future would be better if they trade them. They would be their best trade chips.
