Kings in a good spot to acquire some future assets

Jonathan Davis: The Los Angeles Kings are in a good position in that they have players like Jake Muzzin who has term left. They can move him if they get a good offer before the deadline or the can wait until the draft if they want.

John Hoven: If the Kings are eyeing drafting in the top 5 this year and next, they don’t need to bring Muzzin back. “Need good asset management more… And Muzzin/Quick are the only two assets that will return first round picks.”

Dennis Bernstein: Can’t see the Kings re-signing forward Carl Hagelin. Would think that if they moved him and his $3.75 million salary cap hit at the deadline they wouldn’t get much more than possibly a low round conditional pick.

Dennis Bernstein: The Kings should be looking to acquire prospects and draft picks at the deadline and moving out some salary.

Skinner contract talks to start soon

Lance Lysowski: Source saying that long-term contract extension talks with pending UFA forward Jeff Skinner will be starting “pretty soon.”

Mike Harrington: The Starting point for Skinner is likely $8 million and then going up.

Possible landing spots for Red Wings forward Nyquist

Max Bultman of The Athletic: Looking at some potential landing spots for Detroit Red Wings pending unrestricted free agent forward Gustav Nyquist.

Nashville Predators – Could cost less to acquire than the likes of Matt Duchene or Wayne Simmonds.

San Jose Sharks  – Could use another winger and could play on any of their top three lines. Don’t have a first-round pick for the next two years.

Edmonton Oilers – Need scoring help up front. Any draft pick acquired would be in the middle of a round and not towards the end like it would be for some contenders. Have some young players/prospects that might interest the Wings.

Dallas Stars – Need secondary scoring. Would the Wings be interested in defenseman Julius Honka?

Boston Bruins – Would like to add second line scoring help. Bruins may eye Brayden Schenn and Kevin Hayes over Nyquist.

The Minnesota Wild and Anaheim Ducks are two other teams to keep an eye on.
