On the Tampa Bay Lightning …
Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times: Lightning GM Steve Yzerman said he’s trying to make move before the March 1st trade deadline.
The Lightning badly need another top-four defenseman.
“If there was something I could have done to this point that would make our team better, I would have done it,” Yzerman said. “We’ll keep trying.”
The salary cap, expansion draft and many teams still in it are making it hard to deal.
“It’s been very, very quiet,” Yzerman said.
On the Colorado Avalanche, New York Islanders and Boston Bruins …
Answering some twitter questions …
Adrian Dater: There has been some talk between the Avalanche and NY Islanders about Gabriel Landeskog and/or Matt Duchene. Travis Hamonic would be a must include in a deal for either.
Adrian Dater: Unless the Bruins are willing to include either Brandon Carlo or Charles McAvoy in a deal, there is no deal for the Avalanche. Things could get more interesting if the Avalanche were to have Tyson Barrie in a trade. There could be lots of pieces potentially in play.
On the Colorado Avalanche …
Terry Frei of the Denver Post: The Avalanche have been talking to teams, and they will continue. GM Joe Sakic must listen and consider everything that comes his way.
Sakic said on Friday that any moves they make are made with next season and beyond in mind. He doesn’t plan on quitting after the season.
Neither the Avs core and non-core have played well this season. Because of the salary cap, it’s hard for the Avs to call up some young players, unless they can move out some non-core veterans.
Trading Jarome Iginla to a contender makes sense, though it may not be an easy thing to do.
Maybe a contender would be interested in Blake Comeau, who has a year left at $2.4 million.
