Toffoli healthy scratched and could get moved eventually
Lisa Dillman of The Athletic: Los Angeles Kings coach Todd McLellan may forward Tyler Toffoli a healthy scratch on Wednesday. Toffoli is a pending UFA with a $4.6 million salary cap hit and has only scored three goals, with two assists in 12 games.
Dennis Bernstein of The Fourth Period: There were 21 scouts and executives at the LA Kings game on Wednesday.
Ottawa Senators GM Pierre Dorion was one executive that was present. The Montreal Canadiens had two at the game – Scott Mellanby and Lorne Henning.
The Kings do play in Montreal next week, but the Canadiens are believed to be looking for a left-handed defenseman. Alec Martinez has another year left at $4 million and might interest the Canadiens.
Would the Senators and Kings be interested in doing a Jeff Carter for Bobby Ryan trade? Both have two years left on their deals. Carter is a $5.27 million salary cap hit with around $7 million in total salary. Ryan makes more and the Senators would need to retain salary.
The Kings are hoping Toffoli turns his season around and increases his trade value. There have been no contract talks of late.
Could the Bruins have interest in a couple of Kings’ wingers?
Jimmy Murphy of Boston Hockey Now: Could the Boston Bruins look towards the Los Angeles Kings for help on their second line – Tyler Toffoli or Jeff Carter.
The Bruins need secondary scoring and a top-six winger. Bruins GM Don Sweeney has previously looked at Carter and Toffoli as potential trade targets.
Last season Carter was one of their fallback options if they hadn’t been able to land Charlie Coyle according to a source. Another source recently said the Bruins had looked at Toffoli this past offseason as a potential option.
Carter’s cap hit $5.2 million for the next two seasons wouldn’t be easy for the Bruins add given the number of RFAs and UFAs that would need new contracts. Carter seems unlikely at this point in time.
