On the Tampa Bay Lightning …

Chris Nichols: Bob McKenzie on the radio: “I think Tampa is going to trade Ben Bishop, but there’s no market for him right now.” … “I’m not sure what value you’ll get back, other than the potential for cap space.”

On the Edmonton Oilers …

Geoff Lowe of Sportsnet: Elliotte Friedman on Sportsnet’s Headlines last night said that Oilers defenseman Brandon Davidson‘s name could come up on trade talks because the expansion draft.

“The Oilers don’t want to lose for nothing. I think there’s some interest in him,” Friedman said Saturday on Hockey Night in Canada. “And especially since they have to sign the likes of McDavid, Draisaitl and Russell in the next little while.

“I think there’s going to be some talk around Davidson’s name.”

On the Montreal Canadiens …

Darren Dreger of TSN: Size at center has to be a concern for the Montreal Canadiens. Adding the 6-foot-6 Martin Hanzal would create a more formidable top-six. Would give the Canadiens the option of moving Alex Galchenyuk to left wing. GM Marc Bergevin isn’t going to give up Michael McCarron. There were at least 10 teams interested in Hanzal.

The asking price for Kevin Shattenkirk last offseason was a young roster player and a first round pick.

On the Arizona Coyotes …

Darren Dreger: Sources saying the Coyotes ownership group was shocked that ASU decided to pull out of their arena project. It doesn’t sound like they have a backup plan in place.

Darren Dreger: The Coyotes don’t have a lot of options other than staying in Glendale or moving. The NHL controls if they leave.

Darren Dreger: The NHL believes their are backup options/plans for the Coyotes to remain in Phoenix.

The Fourth Period: The 40-year old Shane Doan carries a no-movement clause and a $3.876 million cap plus playoff bonuses. The Montreal Canadiens and San Jose Sharks have shown interest in the Coyotes, but could do be looking at Martin Hanzal.
