On the Colorado Avalanche and Matt Duchene …
Adrian Dater of BSN Denver: Matt Duchene after practice yesterday on his future.
“I’m taking things one day at a time,” Duchene told BSN Denver, when asked his thoughts on possibly being with the team still by opening night in New York, Oct. 5 against the Rangers. “Not looking that far into the future. Less is more for me right now.”
Sources are saying trade talk has been quiet recently.
Mike Chambers of the Denver Post: Duchene after practice yesterday.
“I’m not going to predict the future on my longevity here,” Duchene, the team’s longest-tenured player, told The Denver Post. “I’m day by day. I’m just enjoying playing hockey. A lot got blown out of proportion. I said what I wanted to say then. Nothing’s changed since Thursday. I’m here to get better, I’m here for those reasons — that I said on Thursday.”

Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports: Darren Dreger was on TSN 1290 talking about Matt Duchene and the Colorado Avalanche again. Any trade may now have to be for a right-handed defenseman, a move from the draft when GM Joe Sakic was looking for a left-handed defenseman as part of the package.
“I still hear rumblings of the Columbus Blue Jackets being as likely as any team, and I know that there are still a few teams that are keenly interested in Matt Duchene. But when I look at some of the goings on in Columbus, it does make some sense. You’ve got Ryan Murray there, who – he hasn’t been able to stay healthy with the Blue Jackets. Because of that, maybe there’s – I don’t know – it’s just a sense that there’s time for change. You’ve got Josh Anderson there, who I think is a real good young player – he can’t seem to lure the Blue Jackets into a real good contract negotiation, something that they’re both satisfied with.”
Maybe Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen could add another piece or two. thinks that Sakic may have to realize soon that the best deal for Duchene may have already crossed his table, and removing the distraction maybe the best for the organization.
Pierre LeBrun on TSN 1260 radio talking about Matt Duchene.
“I think Columbus has shown a lot of interest. I know there are other teams as well. But again, what other teams have offered so far clearly hasn’t been at the level of what Joe Sakic wants.
wonders if it’s time for Sakic to just make the best deal he can now and move on, or does he hold on to hope that some team meets his asking price?
“And maybe I’m wrong. But when I talk to other teams – and listen, the Columbus Blue Jackets, I think they view him as the missing piece on a very good hockey team. And they’re not alone. There’s other teams too.
“So I’m not sure that that has been as much of a factor as maybe some people think.”
