Wild will speak with Jared Spurgeon about an extension
Sarah McLellan of the Star Tribune: Minnesota Wild defenseman Jared Spurgeon is eligible for a contract extension this offseason, and it’s on the Wild’s list of things to address.
“It will certainly be addressed,” General Manager Paul Fenton said. “You see how much of an impact he has on our organization.”
Spurgeon loves it in Minnesota and he’ll let his agent handle that side of things.
“My family loves it here,” he said. “We love it here. I want to win here, so you can just go about it the way you can and let your agent do his thing.”
Fenton said they will “most likely” work on bringing back all their pending RFAs – Pontus Aberg, Ryan Donato, Joel Eriksson Ek, Kevin Fiala and Nico Sturm.
It doesn’t sound like all pending UFAs will be back. Eric Fehr, Anthony Bitetto and Brad Hunt are among their pending UFAs.
Wild could shop Jason Zucker leading up to the draft
Dane Mizutani of the Pioneer Press: After seeing teammates get traded at the deadline, Minnesota Wild forward Jason Zucker had trouble ignoring his name being in the rumor mill.
“It was the first time for me that it had ever been to that magnitude,” Zucker said. “I had to almost come to the realization like, ‘This is happening.’ ”
Zucker being traded to the Calgary Flames fell through at the last minute.
It wouldn’t be a surprise if Zucker is shopped again leading up to the draft in June.
Zucker is looking forward to being away from the rink and media who as about the trade rumors.
“I can’t tell you how many times you guys asked me about it, right?” Zucker said with a smile. “That’s not your fault; that’s your job. That’s what you’re supposed to do.”
