On the Montreal Canadiens …
Eric Engels: Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin on getting goaltender Carey Price signed to an extension before the start of the season: “I would say so, yes. I would like to. I believe he wants to stay in MTL, so I think we’ll be able to…”
David Pagnotta: About 15 teams including the Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Rangers have spoken with GM Bergevin about forward Alex Galchenyuk. Canadiens will liste to offers but are also continuing contract talks.
Louis Jean: GM Bergevin didn’t rule out trading the rights to UFA Alexander Radulov if he can’t re-sign him.
Darren Dreger: Bergevin said that they will continue to look for defensemen, but he is happy he has able to trade for David Schlemko yesterday.
Montreal Canadiens: Bergevin confirmed that they won’t be bringing free agents Brian Flynn and Dwight King back next year.
Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports: Darren Dreger was on TSN 690 yesterday talking about Montreal Canadiens and unrestricted free agent forward Alexander Radulov who is coming off a one-year, $5.75 million deal. Dreger doesn’t think Radulov’s asking price and changed that much.
“It would make sense to me, on the outside anyway, that the Montreal Canadiens would have interest in a three or maybe a four year deal at maybe $5.5-6 million per year, but I’m told as of last night he wants more than that in both term and in money. I don’t see the fit at five or six years. I really don’t. And I don’t think that Marc Bergevin and the Montreal Canadiens do either.
“But there’s still time on both sides here. And I think it’ll be an easy situation for Bergevin to walk away from. As much as he wants to keep the player, he can’t make a bad deal in this case.”
