There are a few teams that you would expect to have a good start to the season, but there are a few other teams that are a bit of a surprise so far.

Canadiens could look for a veteran defensemen

Sportsnet: Nick Kypreos notes on Headlines that Shea Weber will be back this week but it’s not known who he’ll be playing with. They have some injuries and a lot of their guys don’t have much experience.

If they remain in the playoff race Kypreos thinks they could call on the Los Angeles Kings or St. Louis Blues about an experienced defenseman.

“The feeling is, if the Montreal Canadiens remain in the picture, gonna have to shop for an experienced defenceman,” he said. “So keep an eye on Montreal possibly looking at targeting maybe the St. Louis Blues or L.A. Kings. They’ve got experienced D and, depending on if they continue to falter, I’m sure that becomes that much more attractive.”

Panthers looking for a goaltender?

Chris Nichols of Nichols on Hockey: Elliotte Friedman was on Sportsnet 960 and was talking about the Florida Panthers and Montreal Canadiens goaltender Charlie Lindgren.

“I have heard that the pressure is definitely ratcheting up there. I do believe that’s true that that is going on,” said Friedman of the Panthers. “But one of the guys I think they had interest in last year was Charlie Lindgren, who’s Montreal’s young goaltender, who’s playing this year in Laval at the American Hockey League.”

Friedman continues that the Montreal Canadiens don’t want to Lindgren being a backup with them and only playing 20 games, which is why they have Antti Niemi.

The Panthers are one of the teams believes have asked the Canadiens if they’d consider moving him.

Lindgren is on a three-year deal at a reasonable price and he wouldn’t come cheap.

“And I just understand the price is high. If you want him – because I know the Canadiens like him, and they like having him there as an option for whatever happens in the future because you never know – I think he’s a guy that Florida has looked at.”
