On the Montreal Canadiens …
Chris Nichols of FRS Hockey: Bob McKenzie was on TSN 1290 and was talking about the Montreal Canadiens and how there is likely more change coming.
“And I think certainly in the case of the Montreal Canadiens, there’s got be more to come. I think Max Pacioretty is likely to be dealt at some point. And we won’t be able to judge this deal obviously until we see how the two new players start to perform for their team, and what else Montreal does to try and change the look of their team – up front especially.”
On Ilya Kovalchuk …
TSN: The number of teams interested in free agent Ilya Kovalchuk is growing according to Darren Dreger.
The Boston Bruins are a team with “considerable interest” and Kovalchuk would have some interest in joining them.
“The Los Angeles Kings, the San Jose Sharks, the New York Rangers, to some degree, although the Rangers aren’t really the right fit, aside from the fact he still has a home there.”
Dreger continued on the TSN 1050 radio that eight to 10 teams could have shown some interest in Kovalchuk.
“The Anaheim Ducks inquired, but it sounds like they’re basically out; the St. Louis Blues inquired, but I think they will look at as almost a plan C if doesn’t hit the market…I’m going to say there’s upwards of eight, maybe 10 teams that have expressed some interest, but now now we’re down to the nitty-gritty here and the advantage that has had to this point in talking with teams and esentially openly negotiating — he can’t sign anything until July 1 — is goint to drift away and likewise for , so things are going to get real, real this week, I would say.”
