On the Montreal Canadiens and Max Pacioretty …
Josh Beneteau of Sportsnet: Teams are calling Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin about Max Pacioretty according to Elliotte Friedman.
Friedman said that some teams that may not want to get involved in free agency are inquiring.
Pacioretty has a year left on his deal. Some teams are asking if they could get a contract done to ensure that they get more than one year out of Pacioretty.
“I think (teams) are also wondering… what he might want as an extension,” Friedman said. “So I think there’s been some asking about the possibility for a sign-and-trade for Pacioretty. So we’ll see where that goes.”
On the Los Angeles Kings and Drew Doughty …
David Morassutti of Sportsnet: The LA Kings and defenseman Drew Doughty are making some progress on a contract extension. Doughty has a year left on his eight-year, $56 million deal.
“Talks are going well but not to the point where I think he’s going to reset the bar as many expected with Erik Karlsson also coming up in 2019,” Nick Kypreos said during the second intermission of Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final.”
Doughty can sign an extension after July 1st. He’ll be getting more than his current $7 million a season, and he could get something similar to Anze Kopitar’s deal according to Kypreos.
“They understand in LA that Kopitar is the highest paid at $10 million but he will not get much higher than that, 10-and-a-half, 11. But if they’re going to compete… it can’t go past a Connor McDavid contract,” Kypreos said.
