On the Montreal Canadiens, New York Islanders, Los Angeles Kings, Buffalo Sabres, and Carolina Hurricanes …
Chris Nichols of FRS Hockey: Elliotte Friedman on 630 CHED when asked if the Montreal Canadiens would offer the Max Pacioretty to the New York Islanders for the No. 11 pick. It could be possible as they are looking for another first-round pick. The Canadiens could also offer No. 35 and No. 38 to try and get another first.
“The one thing I haven’t been able to determine, and it’s going to be harder now with Lamoriello there, is how interested the Islanders are in Pacioretty. I’ve had people say that they are interested, I’ve had people say that they are not. So I think it’s kind of difficult to tell.”
Friedman wonders if the LA Kings would try to add two scorers – Ilya Kovalchuk and Max Pacioretty, or two of Kovalchuk, Pacioretty and Jeff Skinner. What would the costs be?
Friedman thinks that Ryan O’Reilly’s $7.5 million bonus on July 1st makes it more difficult to trade him. He could be one player who doesn’t get traded today. Team may want to see what happens with John Tavares before moving to O’Reilly.
“I think a guy who could go I think is Justin Faulk. I’ve heard Detroit. They’ve been on and off with him.”
Darren Dreger on WGR 550 on Sabres forward Ryan O’Reilly.
“The message that I got specific to Ryan O’Reilly – it’s got to be the right return,” said Dreger. “I know that Buffalo has asked for the third pick overall from the Montreal Canadiens. Why wouldn’t you? Doesn’t mean you’re going to get it, but you’re certainly not going to get it if you don’t ask for it. Is Jason Botterill willing to soften off that? We’re going to find out.”
On the Winnipeg Jets …
TSN: Bob McKenzie was on TSN 1290 radio was asked about the Winnipeg Jets but he isn’t hearing much about them. The Los Angeles Kings are looking for a scorer or two. The Carolina Hurricanes, Buffalo Sabres, and the Montreal Canadiens are active.
“So you’ve got these handful of teams that are kind of at the top end of the activity level, and the Jets wouldn’t be in that group. That’s not to say that they can’t do something or they won’t do something, it’s just that relative to those other teams it’s pretty quiet.
“But Kevin Cheveldayoff is not a guy that advertises what he’s doing anyways – he can be a little stealthy – so we’ll keep an eye on things as it unfolds.”
