On the Minnesota Wild …
Michael Russo of the Star Tribune: The Minnesota Wild were getting lots of calls on Jonas Brodin. (Brodin nor any defenseman were dealt before the trade freeze)
The risk of not trading him is that a team that was interested in him could work out a trade with the Golden Knights.
GM Chuck Fletcher had already been talking to the Golden Knights and still could work out a deal between today and Wednesday.
The Montreal Canadiens, Tampa Bay Lightning, Dallas Stars and Toronto Maple Leafs were believed to have shown interest in Brodin. The Lightning and Wild were talking about Jonathan Drouin before he was dealt.
The Canadiens had been talking to the Wild about Alex Galchenyuk, and Brodin or Marco Scandella.
On the Montreal Canadiens and Alex Galchenyuk …
Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports: Elliotte Friedman on the Montreal Canadiens and Alex Galchenyuk trade rumors.
“I think we’re going to hear a lot about Galchenyuk,” said Elliotte Friedman during a Friday afternoon TV hit on NHL Network. “I think there’s been a lot of conversation about Galchenyuk. I think Marc Bergevin has a lot of irons in the fire. I think he’s got a lot of things going on. Obviously he’s dropped one blockbuster on us already.”
Friedman notes that the Canadiens didn’t qualify defenseman Nikita Nesterov, who is now a free agent.
“ … I think if the Canadiens can get another center or defenseman for a Galchenyuk, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if they do that. I think his name is definitely out there, and if you’re interested I think the Canadiens are interested in talking to you.”
Friedman was on 630 CHED on Friday and said the Minnesota Wild had previous interest in Galchenyuk, and the that it wouldn’t be a surprise if the Vancouver Canucks were interested.
