On the Montreal Canadiens and Colorado Avalanche …
Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports: Bob McKenzie was on TSN 690 radio talking about the Montreal Canadiens and their struggles. McKenzie thinks it’s time for Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin to do something. The easy thing for him to do would be to fire Michel Therrien, but McKenzie doesn’t think Bergevin wants to make a coaching change. Bergevin has to thinking about making a trade.
McKenzie doesn’t know what the Colorado Avalanche would want from the Canadiens for Matt Duchene, but the price would be high. It would likely be some combination of Michael McCarron, Mikhail Sergachev, Noah Juulsen or Nikita Scherbak.
“And because we’re dealing with Colorado, the expectation is there’s going to be multiple pieces involved. And I’m not saying everyone of those guys would be gone, but you know what? If you’re making a trade for Matt Duchene, I’m betting Colorado is insisting on at least two of those, not to mention a first-round pick or what have you.
“Because Colorado’s price for a guy like Duchene, or Landeskog, has been three or four high-end pieces. And what they’re really after is a 20-something – and I say 20-something (meaning) lower 20s – somebody who is already established in the National Hockey League. Somebody who has played games and is NHL-ready right now.”
Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports: Elliotte Friedman on Sportsnet 960 talking about the Montreal Canadiens struggles. Friedman on GM Marc Bergevin.
“I definitely think he’s got his hands in a lot of things. I think he is prepared to make a move to help his team. Everybody is well aware that Joe Sakic was at the game last night between Montreal and Boston. Both of those teams have talked to Sakic about players there. I just think he’s got to have something going on and I wouldn’t be surprised if we came back in five days and something about his team was different. If it’s the coach or it’s the roster, I can’t tell you.”
Friedman wouldn’t be surprised if the Canadiens make some sort of move this week.
“I really think this week Montreal – Marc Bergevin has some decisions to make,” said the Insider. “I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he’s the big newsmaker this week.”
