Will Morgan Rielly and Darnell Nurse be open to a trade this offseason?
The Chris Johnston Show: Chris Johnston on Morgan Rielly and Darnell Nurse being two defensemen that their current teams may not mind moving. Is there a market for either player? Would Rielly waive his no-movement clause?

Julian McKenzie: “Before we get to Leafs corner, I want to get your thoughts on what the defense market could look like for trades. Morgan Rielly and Darnell Nurse near the top of your list in terms of defense. Also curious about the goaltending market as well, with names like Aiden Hill, Jordan Binnington on the list as well.”

Johnston: “Yeah, I think in the case of Rielly and Nurse, I mean players, it’s sort of in a similar spot. They’ve been with their teams a long time. They’re on long-term contracts. They both have no movement clauses, so they have a lot of control about what happens or doesn’t happen with their situations, you know.
The expectation with Rielly, I think, is that it’s now blowing in the direction that the wind is now blowing in the direction that you know it’s more than likely he’s going to go, but you know that’s that’s far from a certainty. I mean, you need to figure out his destinations, if there’s interest from those teams. If something can be worked out that makes sense.
But you know he’s been steadfastly against the idea, you know, clearly is, you know, feels Toronto’s home, but I think there’s at least a little bit more of an open mind about the possibility he moves on.
You know, from the Oilers end of things. I think it’s as simple, Darnell Nurse, he’s just paid above what he brings. And what he brings still has a lot of value, but you know, he’s paid like a cornerstone, you know, top of the rotation defenseman, and he’s just not that.

And with the Oilers being in their window, where they’re trying to win a Stanley Cup next year, having an inefficient contract like that on the books, and obviously he’s not the only one in Edmonton, but having that money tied up in a way that isn’t productive entirely for the team. I think, at least has to lead to you to the point where you’re looking to see if there’s a fit out there. So, I put them in one bucket.
