Simon Nemec will need a new contract this offseason? Will it be with the Devils?
James Nichols of NJ Hockey Now: The New Jersey Devils weren’t looking to trade defenseman Simon Nemec at the trade deadline for nothing, but his future with the Devils beyond this season is uncertain.
There was nothing to the William Ekland (Sharks) speculation that was put out there.
Nemec is a pending RFA, and will need a new contract. GM Tom Fitzergard was asked after the deadline, and his tone doesn’t seem right.
“Well, that’s something we’ll go through when the season ends, and where his head is at,” Fitzgerald explained. “How does he see his future with what we have here already? Where he fits. You know, does he like New Jersey? What’s his thoughts? I’ll go through that with his agent.”

Nemec will be offer sheet eligible this offseason. Sources say that Nemec could be looking for Luke Hughes‘ money. (Hughes signed a seven-year deal on October 1st, 2025, at a $9 million cap hit.)
Defenseman Dougie Hamilton could be a trade candidate this offseason. He’s owed a $7.4 million bonus on July 1st.
Toronto Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving will get some clarity this offseason
