On the Arizona Coyotes and St. Louis Blues …
Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports: Elliotte Friedman on Sportsnet 590 and 960 on Friday. The Arizona Coyotes and Edmonton Oilers were two teams last offseason that were given permission by the Blues to speak with Kevin Shattenkirk about a contract extension. Friedman heard the Coyotes got close, but couldn’t finalize a deal.
“Arizona was the other team that had permission to talk to him. Those conversation I heard went somewhere. It got to a point where I think somebody thought it could happen, and then it just didn’t. I’m not sure if it was because they couldn’t agree on a contract, or they couldn’t agree on a trade. But it was moving in the right direction and then it all fell apart.”
On the Arizona Coyotes …
Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic: Shane Doan said last week that he could possibly waive his no-movement clause to go to a contender. Doan’s agent:
“I would say if he makes any kind of decision, it’d be right at the trade deadline,” Doan’s agent, Terry Bross said.
Coach Dave Tippett on Doan’s situations.
“Shane and I, we talked about this many times. It’s totally up to him. He has all the cards; if he wants to look at pursuing something, I’m sure the team would help him. If he doesn’t, we’re fine with that. We need him in a real strong leadership role. … Just the example he sets, that’s the example we want our young players to see.”
