On the New York Islanders, Columbus Blue Jackets and Colorado Avalanche …
Arthur Staple: TSN’s Frank Seravalli reported that Islanders GM Garth Snow gave the coaching staff a vote of confidence. The Islanders are trying to trade for a forward.
Arthur Staple: Wonder if Garth Snow would trade one of Anthony Beauvillier, Mathew Brazal or Josh Ho-Sang for a forward? Those are the players that teams are interested in.
Andy Graziano: Have been told that at least four teams have been in contact with the Islanders – Colorado Avalanche, Arizona Coyotes, Carolina Hurricanes and Toronto Maple Leafs.
Arthur Staple: Blue Jackets forward Brandon Saad would be an enticing option for the Islanders. Seems like an unlikely trade though considering the teams are in the same division.
Arthur Staple: Think that the Islanders had someone at the Coyotes-Flames last night. The Islanders are more likely to make a trade with a team from outside their division and conference.
Arthur Staple of Newsday: The Islanders and Avalanche have been scouting each other recently. Both teams are struggling. The Islanders being able to trade for someone Matt Duchene “seems like a long shot.”
Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports: Elliotte Friedman on the NHL Network talking about the New York Islanders. Trade talk involving Jaroslav Halak has cooled and thinking they are trying hard to acquire a forward.
“But I do think they’ve gone hard to try to find a forward. I know Arthur Staple, who really knows what’s going on there with Newsday, talked about Matt Duchene. I wonder if they also talked to Columbus about Brandon Saad. I’m not sure, but I could see the possibility.
“I think though the biggest problem is if the Islanders know they’re going to do that, they’re probably going to have to give up one of their really good young prospects. Garth Snow’s history is not really to do that, and I wonder if he’d be willing to do it at this particular time.”
