Steve Kouleas: “The whole East. This is great. It’s so much fun, unless maybe you’re the Rangers. Okay? Mike brought up Chris Drury, wow. I don’t know what is or isn’t happening. Jeff Gorton’s done well in Montreal, rebuilding the Habs, right?”
Dave Pagnotta: “Yeah, pretty good.”
NHL Injuries: Bruins, Blackhawks, Wild, Kraken, Blues, Lightning, Leafs, and More
Kouleas: “That’s worked out pretty well. Youngest team. Teams that have said afterwards, that’s the fastest team in the league, maybe all around, like every player. How good the Habs have looked this season. What’s going on with the Rangers? Notwithstanding 8-4 debacle last night?”
Pagnotta: “Yeah, they’re, I don’t know if the Drury discussion topic, whatever, is going to happen now. I think this is something after the season, which leads me to believe fully, and I think James Dolan acknowledged this too, that they’re gonna have patience. Whatever that is in his definition. And Drury’s the guy that’s got to roll with this.
They want to figure out what’s going on with Artemi Panarin. Can they sign him to a contract that’s favourable, and to me, that I believe, is around a three-year type deal?”
Dennis Bernstein: “Yeah, it’s more about term.”
Pagnotta: “Right DB.”
Kouleas: “How much? 12?”
Pagnotta: “It’s going to be in and around what he’s making now. It’s going to be.”
Kouleas: “He is making $11.64 million”
Bernstein: “It can’t be much more. It can’t be (Kirill) Kaprizov number.”
Pagnotta: “No. So no, it won’t be even if he hits the open market. But if they realize they can’t get him signed, I think they’re gonna look to move him. What I heard the last couple of days, I’d say within the last 24 hours, what’s interesting is, anytime teams start to flounder. Everybody starts to vulture in, right?”
NHL Rumors: The New York Rangers Should Trade Artemi Panarin
Kouleas: “Yeah, yeah.”
Pagnotta: “Teams have been asking about Vinnie Trocheck.”
Kouleas: “Oh!!”
Pagnotta: “He’s got a limited no-trade. I don’t remember what his trade list parameter is, but he’s got some no-trade protection. Got a few years left. Doesn’t mean they’re going to do it, but teams are now zeroing in and having a conversation about Vinnie Trocheck. I’ve heard at least one Western Conference team has been poking around there.”
NHLRumors.com Note: With the center market thin right now, Trocheck would be a valuable piece on the trade market if he were to be made available. Several teams would be looking to add his services, given his cap hit for this year and the two seasons after that. But the New York Rangers have to decide now that everyone is available. Again, Panarin has a choice about where he wants to go, but since he isn’t going to sign, the best thing to do is move him.
