Trouba on an extension
Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun: Jacob Trouba last night on the possibility of signing a long-term deal with the Rangers.
“We haven’t really worried about it. I’m just trying to get through the night and enjoy it and everything that’s going on,” Trouba said. “I’m sure we’ll deal with it in the morning and start those talks in the morning.”
Rangers likely not done

Larry Brooks of the New York Post: The Winnipeg Jets wouldn’t allow teams to talk to Jacob Trouba’s camp about a potential contract extension. Teams then dropped out of the running for him, which then lowered the price.
The New York Rangers have added defensemen Jacob Trouba and Adam Fox this offseason. They could buy out the remaining two years of Kevin Shattenkirk‘s contract.
“I don’t have an answer on that right now,” Gorton said when asked if this deal might make a buyout or two more likely. “Maybe I will be able to answer that better closer to the draft.”
Signing Trouba to a contract extension could cost the Rangers close to $8 million a season. If the Rangers wanted to go after Artemi Panarin in free agency, they may need to move out some salaries.
Forward Chris Kreider has a year left on his deal and may look for $6.5 million and up on his next contract. If the Rangers think that is too high, they could look to get a first-round pick for him at the draft.
