On nine NHL players who could be traded …
Jared Clinton of The Hockey News: Looking at nine players could be traded before this years NHL trade deadline.
Evander Kane – Buffalo Sabres – pending UFA who has been in the rumor mill since last season. Could be one of the top rental players available if he keeps his current pace up. Could be looking at $6 million plus on a long-term deal.
Mike Green – Detroit Red Wings – pending UFA with a $6 million cap hit.
Alex Galchenyuk – Montreal Canadiens – has had his role decrease under Claude Julien. Unless he rediscovers his touch, his trade value will remain low.
John Tavares – New York Islanders – until Tavares is signed to an extension, there will those wondering. Will be lots of interest.
Rick Nash – New York Rangers – a Nash deal may be worth exploring if it could land them a player(s), or prospects or draft picks. Carries a big salary cap hit in the final year of his deal so teams may wait until the deadline.
Joe Thornton – San Jose Sharks – will depend on if the Sharks are in the playoff race, and if he’d okay the move. Thornton has a no-movement clause.
James van Riemsdyk – Toronto Maple Leafs – a pending UFA and the Maple Leafs have some defensive issues.
James Neal – Vegas Golden Knights – pending UFA that carries a $5 million cap hit and has been a consistent 20-plus goal scorer.
David Perron – Vegas Golden Knights – pending UFA that would bring the Knights more future assets. Wouldn’t bring in as much return as Neal would. Only recorded one point in 11 playoff games last season for the Blues.
