On the NY Islanders and their three goalie system …

Arthur Staple: Talked to some people over the weekend and it’s safe to say that none of the NY Islanders three goalies (Jaroslav Halak, Thomas Greiss and J-F Berube) have requested a trade last year or so far this year.

Peter Botte of the New York Daily News: Thomas Greiss on the Islanders three goalie system.

“I don’t worry too much about (having three goalies), I get my work in as best as I can,” Greiss said. “It’s out of my hands, so I just make the best of the situation and play my game.”

Halak has a year left on his deal with a $4.5 million salary cap hit. He let management know last spring his thoughts on going with three goalies.

“It’s not ideal” and “I’ve tried to tell (management).”

Source saying that Halak hasn’t officially asked for a trade.

Mike Morreale of NHL.com: Islanders coach Jack Capuano yesterday on agent Allan Walsh’s comments about the Islanders goaltending situation.

“I like Allan, he’s a good guy,” Capuano said. “I’ve had conversations with him with Garth Snow when I’m involved in those, but not too many. He’s got his opinion, and I’m not going to comment any more than that. I’ve always said when it comes to personnel decisions, those are questions directed for our general manager.”

On the Toronto Maple Leafs and James van Riemsdyk …

Howard Berger of Between The Posts: The media and fans have James van Riemsdyk available for trade, but “there isn’t a shred of evidence that Lamoriello has even thought about trading van Riemsdyk.” van Riemsdyk could bring in a good return, possibly improving their depth on the blueline.

Talk has Maple Leafs ready to move van Riemsdyk once Nikita Soshnikov is fully recovered from his hamstring injury.

This idea “is somewhat preposterous.”
