Puljujarvi not backing down “I want a new start with some other team.”
Jouni Nieminen: Jesse Puljujarvi to a Kaleva Newspaper while at a charity hockey game in Oulu:
“I want a new start with some other team. Playing in North America is still my goal.”
“I will stay on Oulu until I have a contract. I will find a place to play somewhere”.
Jouni Nieminen: Puljujarvi added that he feels he’ll be traded by the start of training camp. He adds “My body feels like it should, and the operated hip is better than new.”
Jason Gregor: An issue for Puljujarvi is doesn’t believe the Oilers are in any rush to trade him unless they are able to get a fair return.
Jim Matheson: “Not sure if Jesse and his agent Markus Lehto understand fully that Ken Holland is a lot like Glen Sather as GMs go. You couldn’t force Sather to do what he didn’t want to do and Holland is exactly the same.”
Jim Matheson: Maybe Puljujarvi could sign a one-year deal with Oulu. He would get less than the $1 million that he could get on a one-year deal with the Oilers.
One NHL executive on Puljujarvi: “He’s chosen flight over fight.”
Jim Matheson: “This is all baffling to me. Puljujarvi, as we keep saying, can sign a one-year deal here with a new coach as 3rd line RW to start season and if it still doesn’t work for him, he can get firm hand-shake arrangement from Holland to trade him next June…”
Neely on RFAs McAvoy and Carlo
Joe Haggerty of NBC Sports Boston: Boston Bruins president Cam Neely on restricted free agents Charlie McAvoy and Brandon Carlo.
“Across the league, has been like sweeping mud. Unfortunately, it’s still status quo ,” said Bruins President Cam Neely in an exclusive interview with NBC Sports Boston. “The history since Don has been here is that when we negotiate, we do it from a position of fairness. We do a lot of work at comps around the league and try to get a deal done that’s fair. We start with initial offers that are fair and that’s been no different with Brandon and Charlie.”
Neely added that they do have a plan in place if either player isn’t going to be at training camp.
Carlo could be in line for a three to five year deal in the $3 to $4 million per season range.
McAvoy could look at Aaron Ekblad‘s eight-year deal for $60 million – $7.5 million per.
Both players could look at two or three-year bridge deal.
