On the Edmonton Oilers and Carolina Hurricanes …
The Fourth Period: Multiple sources are saying that have taken calls on goaltender Cam Talbot, and he has been asked for a 10 team trade list.
Talbot has a year left on his contract at a $4.167 million salary cap hit.
GM Peter Chiarelli has also talked to teams about Milan Lucic, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Oscar Klefbom.
There has been some speculation that the Carolina Hurricanes and Oilers have spoken about Nugent-Hopkins and Talbot, with Justin Faulk and Jeff Skinner being discussed on the other side.
(myNHLTR note: this doesn’t mean that it’s RHN and Talbot for Faulk and Skinner, other pieces could have been discussed, those just may be the key pieces)
David Pagnotta: The Oilers had taken calls on Talbot during the season and he’s being talked about again. Not a given that a deal will happen. Same situation as Klefbom.
On the Philadelphia Flyers …
Dave Isaac of the Courier Post: Flyers GM Ron Hextall is looking to add a top player to his roster this offseason.
“We’d love to add a top player whether it be free agency or trade. We’ll try. If we can’t, we can’t and we’ll move forward.”
Their biggest need is a right-handed defenseman to be paired with Ivan Provorov. They could also use a third-line center.
The Flyers should have between $18 and $22 million in salary cap space this offseason. Hextall doesn’t want to spend too much of his cap space on free agents that it would create future issues when need to re-sign some of his younger players.
“It’s hard to plan, and you have to be careful not to over-plan,” he said. “But Provy is a year away and (Travis) Konecny is a year away. You just go on and on with our kids…and time goes quick. We’re certainly not going to reach out on a seven-year deal on a good player, I can assure you that.”
Capitals UFA defenseman John Carlson is on their list, but not wanting to do a long-term deal on free agents likely takes them out of the running.
Free agent options at center could include Paul Stastny, Tyler Bozak and Riley Nash.
