Olympic arena progress report coming today
TSN: If the Olympic arena is not safe, completed, and up to NHL standards, the NHL won’t participate. It is expected to be complete in time, but there are concerns, according to Darren Dreger.
TSN: Dregers said that one of the arena will be tested next week and the main tested in January. The NHL and NHLPA will be on a Zoom call on Friday to get a progress report.
Will Milan Lucic want to play overseas or will he look for a different role in hockey?
TSN: Milan Lucic was released from his AHL tryout with the St. Louis Blues last week, and his contemplating his future, at least in North America, according to Darren Dreger. He is getting some interest overseas. He’s received an offer from a team in Scotland. Lucic will need to side if he wants to keep playing overseas or look for some other role in the game that is closer to home.

How aggressive the Dallas Stars will be will depend on Tyler Seguin’s timeline
TSN: Chris Johnston said that with forward Tyler Seguin going down with an ACL, the Dallas Stars will likely be even more aggressive at the trade deadline. They’re waiting for an exact timeline before they know how cap room they have to work with.
“Certainly they are in a win-now made as is, but with Seguin’s ACL injury, when they get the precise timeline, they’ll know whether they are getting essentially $4 million in extra space, or they can spend up to almost $10 million if Seguin isn’t able to return at all this year.”
If looking to have some salary retention, you may need to make a move sooner than later
TSN: Darren Dreger reminds us that there are two roster freezes this year – holiday (Dec. 19th-28th and Olympic trade freeze (Feb. 4th-22nd) – to go along with the condensed schedule, cap situations, trading hasn’t been easy.

“Even though it’s heavily scrutinized, there are some who think that we still could see double salary retention in play, but to make that work because of how complicated it is, that first trade, if you’re trying to retain salary, acquire that player is likely going to have to be made between now and Dec. 19, so a lot of things in play.”
