Will be weeks before the Buffalo Sabres make a decision on Evander Kane

On the Ottawa Senators, Buffalo Sabres and Pittsburgh Penguins …

TSN Insider Trading: Darren Dreger: Though there has been some speculation that the Ottawa Senators could be for sale, sources are saying that the Senators are not for sale. Not saying that there isn’t interest from wealthy people in Ontario/Quebec/Ottawa that would love to buy the Senators, right now though owner Eugene Melnik is not interested in selling the team.

Pierre LeBrun: Think that pending free agent Evander Kane will eventually be moved, but the Buffalo Sabres haven’t made a final decision yet. If they decide to move Kane, one issue will be that contending teams won’t be able to fit his salary cap in. The Sabres will continue to tell teams that if they move him, they are open to retaining salary. This would potentially allow more teams to be in the running, as well as maximizing the return. Think that things won’t get serious for another six or seven weeks.

Pierre LeBrun: The Pittsburgh Penguins don’t need to go out an find a No. 1 goalie. They were already looking at the back up goalie market before Matt Murray got hurt. The Penguins could look at someone like Andrew Hammond or Eddie Lack.

Bob McKenzie: The Penguins may be willing to move defenseman Ian Cole, but only if they get a prime asset in return, probably a quality center. With being a pending free agent, it may not be easy to do.

“Right now he is on the outs with head coach Mike Sullivan. But in the grand scheme of things, if they get the right deal they’ll move him. If not, I could see him back in the lineup at some point.”
