On the Ottawa Senators and Colin White …
TSN’s Insider Trading: Bob McKenzie: Sense that the Ottawa Senators don’t want sign Colin White to an entry-level and burn a year of contract. Playing one game would burn a year and that is a non-starter for the Senators. The Sens would prefer to sign him to amateur tryout and him finish the season with their AHL team and have his entry-level contract start next year. Don’t have the sense that anything his imminent.
Jeff Cox: (scout/writer for ESPN Boston and SBNation) (posted 1:17 PM yesterday) Can expect an announcement from the Ottawa Senators signing Colin White in the next 24 hours. Contract being finalized between agent Kent Hughes and Senators assistant GM Randy Lee. (Cox adds after Bob McKenzie’s comments on TSN that he is a college hockey follower, and didn’t differentiate between an amateur tryout of burning a year of his entry-level contract)
Bob McKenzie: Don’t get the sense that Colin White will be turning pro with the Senators this year. It can always change with one call, but don’t sense anything is imminent.
Bob McKenzie: As of yesterday, White doesn’t appear to have any interest in signing an ATO to play in the AHL.
Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Citizen: Senators assistant GM Randy Lee has held talks with White’s agent, Kent Hughes. The Senators want to sign White to an amateur tryout and have him Binghamton’s lineup on Friday to face the Toronto Marlies.
It’s believed Hughes and White want an entry-level deal. It would be hard for White to crack the Senators roster and it would burn a year of his deal.
The Senators had hope to have deal in place by yesterday so that they could invite him and his family as last night’s game at the TD Garden.
White does not want to return to college next season.
