On the Ottawa Senators …
Don Brennan of the Ottawa Sun: Senators defenseman Mark Borowiecki isn’t too worried about the expansion draft in June, but admits that he’s thought about what could happen.
It is believed that the Senators will ask defenseman Dion Phaneuf to waive his no-movement clause, and protect Erik Karlsson, Cody Ceci and Marc Methot.
Defenseman Chris Wideman would also be exposed, but he knows it’s out of his control.
Mike Johnston of Sportsnet: Dion Phaneuf has four years left on this seven-year, $49 million deal.
Would be a risky move for the Senators to ask Phaneuf to waive his no-movement, and if he’d okay it. If Phaneuf agreed to waive it, and if select, the extra cap space could be beneficial, but he has fit in nicely since being acquired.
On the Washington Capitals …
J.J. Regan of CSN Mid Atlantic: The Capitals are wondering if they should add at the deadline, or stand pat. They could use a right-handed defenseman.
Forward Daniel Winnik has been traded three times at the deadline, and knows it’s not always easy to join a team midseason.
“It’s tough to see who you mesh with, personalities off the ice and who you play well with on the ice,” Winnik said. “You’ve got to get used to guys’ tendencies pretty quickly and a lot of that happens in games because now at that time of the year you don’t really practice at all.”
“I think you’re seeing it more where guys are having that hard time adjusting to teams,” Winnik continued. “When I got traded to Pittsburgh that year, a lot of the guys that got traded at the deadline didn’t perform very well and I think it’s just because of how you’re just jammed into the situation.”
Winnik hopes that the Capitals don’t make any trades, with someone gets moved out.
