Senators management didn’t really speak with Karlsson in the past year
Sportsnet: Erik Karlsson said that he hadn’t really spoken with any of the Senators management since last November when they asked for his no-trade list.
“I haven’t spoken to any of them really since November of last year when they asked for my no-trade list,” Karlsson told Postmedia News’ Michael Traikos Thursday. “That’s the way it is, I guess. That’s the only situation I know that’s been like this. It was what it was. I was there to play hockey and I did that to the best of my ability with what we had. That’s all that I worried about.”
The Sharks and GM Doug Wilson aren’t worried that Karlsson could be an unrestricted free agent on July 1st.
Are Stone and Duchene going to want to be part of the Senators rebuild?
Chris Nichols of Nichols on Hockey: Elliotte Friedman was on 630 CHED notes that it seems that nothing that the Senators do is going to work, fans have no faith in the owner, and the best thing for everyone is to get the season going. You can’t change the fact that they have to give up this years first-round pick.
Friedman adds that during Pierre Dorion’s earlier interview, they believed they were close to a long-term term deal with Mark Stone and they’ll continue try to re-sign him.
The Senators are likely going to need to give Matt Duchene around $8 – $8.5 million. He’d be the No. 1 center on the free agent market.
“I think the biggest question they have right now is how are Stone and Duchene going to feel about giving up maybe the next three, four years of their careers. You know if you stay in Ottawa now, barring a miracle run, you’re going to miss the next three years of playoffs. I think that’s a lot to ask of some guys, and I just think that’s a tough spot of where they are now.”
