On the Ottawa Senators …
Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Citizen: Senators GM Pierre Dorion continues to work the phone in an attempt to acquire a forward before the deadline – price permitting of course. He doesn’t want to give up a lot of assets, or a player with an expiring contract.
There have been rumors tying them to Colorado Avalanche forward Matt Duchene. The asking price still remains high for Duchene.
The Senators are not interested in trading Cody Ceci in any deal. It’s believed the Avs are asking for Ceci in a package, along with Thomas Chabot or Colin White, and another piece.
The Senators are one of the five or six teams that have spoken with the Arizona Coyotes about Martin Hanzal.
A league executive said the Coyotes are “asking (for) the moon” for Hanzal.
Would think the Senators have checked in on Thomas Vanek, Jiri Hudler and Drew Stafford.
On the Los Angeles Kings …
The Fourth Period: The LA Kings are looking to trade forward Marian Gaborik. John Hoven of Mayor’s Manor first reported it, the TFP confirmed with the other sources that Gaborik has been on the trade market for several weeks.
The Kings have shown interest in forwards Thomas Vanek, Martin Hanzal, Patrick Sharp and Brian Boyle.
Gaborik has four years left on his contract at a $4.875 million cap hit. His salary is just over $5 million, but drops in the next four years.
The Kings are trying to clear cap space. If they can’t trade him before the deadline, they will look to move him in the offseason, and would likely not protect him for the expansion draft.
Gaborik has six goals and seven assists in 38 games this season.
The Kings had spoken with the Avalanche about Gabriel Landeskog earlier in the season, but it’s not known if any trade talks continue.
