Senators and Duchene’s camp met yesterday
Darren Dreger: Ottawa Senators GM Pierre Dorion was to meet with Pat Brisson, Matt Duchene‘s agent yesterday in Los Angeles.
Jonathan Davis: Heard that the meeting between Dorion and Brisson was positive. There is nothing imminent but the Senators want to keep Duchene and he does have some interest in re-signing with them.
Pierre LeBrun: Believe the GM Dorion met with Mark Stone‘s agency, Newport, a few days ago. Things are still in the preliminary stages with regards to Stone.
TSN: Matt Duchene hasn’t found the process to be a distraction for him and that “real talks” have just started.
“Honestly I’m just letting it play out. I don’t know what’s going to happen, I have no clue. This is still very early in the process, I think today is one of the first kind of real talks so I’m not sure. Honestly, my concern right now is just getting back in the lineup and playing well for the team here and that stuff will follow where it does,” he said.
Duchene adds that he wasn’t thought about it much as he’s had some other distractions, that he hopes it works out, but knows that it’s business and you never know.
Dzingel likely to be traded
Chris Nichols of Nichols on Hockey: Darren Dreger was on TSN 1260 and said that he believes the Ottawa Senators will trade pending free agent forward Ryan Dzingel.
“I’m pretty sure he’s getting traded,” predicted Dreger. “There’s been a fair bit of speculation around him. And look, honestly it’s weird that this guy doesn’t attract more attention.”
Dreger notes that Dzingel flies under the radar with Duchene, Stone and Cody Ceci‘s possibly being out there.
“I feel like Ryan Dzingel is going to be traded, and I think that Pierre Dorion is going to get a decent return. Any team, and I include the Oilers in this, who have interest in upgrading up front, have to be considering Ryan Dzingel.
“The issue, of course, is the same old issue, and that’s how much are you willing to pay for a rental player, and are you willing to get into that rental market at all.”
