Predators looking to clear out some salary cap space
Bob McKenzie: “Not getting caught up in semantics of “shopped” vs. “listening” — been there, done that, circa June, 2016 — but P.K. Subban’s name is out there floating around in the trade-sphere. NSH believed to be looking to clear cap space for either UFA shopping (Duchene?) or Josi extension.”
- Pierre LeBrun: Subban or Kyle Turris or something else may have to give in Nashville if they are going to be able to sign defenseman Roman Josi to a long-term deal this offseason plus adding an extra piece or two.
Bob McKenzie: There is no guarantee that the Subban trade is going to happen, but there is a lot of trade talk going on around the league. Talk at the draft doesn’t always lead to draft day trades.
A few executives have said there may be a few flip-flopping of draft picks, but players actually being traded is not a certainty.
Canucks and Avs talking Barrie?
Adrian Dater: Have been hearing some talk around the draft about the Vancouver Canucks offering Jake Virtanen and a 2020 1st round pick for Colorado Avalanche defenseman Tyson Barrie.
Ben Kuzma: If the Avalanche were to draft Byram at No. 4 then it may make sense for the Avs to look at moving Barrie.
This would be one way Canucks GM Jim Benning could acquire a right-handed defenseman without have to overpay someone if free agency.
Lightning could still look at moving Callahan’s contract
Pierre LeBrun: The Tampa Bay Lightning could still consider trading Ryan Callahan‘s contract this offseason.
Since he’s eligible for the LTIR there is less pressure on the Lightning to move his contract out.
LTIR for the Lightning is not ideal because of performance bonuses that some of their players could earn this season.
Pierre LeBrun: A team like the Ottawa Senators could offer to take Callahan’s contract if they get a draft pick out of it.
