Panthers pulling ahead of the Islanders in the Panarin and Bobrovsky race?
@Account4Hockey: Dennis Bernstein said on Sportsnet 590 that it is looking more and more like Artemi Panarin and Sergei Bobrovsky are a package deal. It’s believed that the Florida Panthers are pulling away with it.
Arthur Staple: The James Reimer trade to the Hurricanes isn’t good news for New York Islanders in their attempt to land Bobrovsky.
There is still lots of time to connect with Lehner.
Reimer getting flipped?
Luke DeCock: Recently acquired goaltender James Reimer may not be staying long with the Carolina Hurricanes.
They agreed to take his contract to move out Darling’s, but there are other potential moves in the works.
A few more notes on Ceci and Zaitsev
Bruce Garrioch: The Ottawa Senators and Toronto Maple Leafs have been talking trade for a couple of weeks.
Defenseman Nikita Zaitsev has a good relationship with Senators head coach DJ Smith.
Contract talks with RFA defenseman Cody Ceci were at a standstill.
Bruce Garrioch: The Senators were not going to go through salary arbitration again with Ceci for a one-year deal. They have been saying they would trade him before going to arbitration.
There was one team at the trade deadline who was interested but they pulled out.
Darren Dreger: If going to arbitration Ceci would likely get around $5 million.
If he were to play well, the Maple Leafs could look to extend him next January – likely a five-year contract extension at around $5 million per season.
It’s also possible that he’s traded again.
The Senators are looking for a veteran or two
Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: Ottawa Senators GM Pierre Dorion continues on free agency.
“The Ottawa Senators are hoping to sign a veteran or two to help build our culture,” Dorion said.
They will likely be looking to add an experienced defenseman.
