Eaves could get into a preseason game

Lisa Dillman of The Athletic: Anaheim Ducks forward Patrick Eaves was only able to get into two games last year after being diagnosed with Guillain-Barre syndrome.

There is some optimistic hope that Eaves would be able to get into a preseason game by the end of training camp. They’ll take things slowly and continue to evaluate him.

“He’s doing really well,” Murray said on Sunday. “He’s ahead of schedule, but we’re gonna be careful. He’s at the point – and I had a good talk with him the other day – he’s working hard with our PT guy this week.

“The first week of camp, he’ll be in some drills, but he won’t be doing contact.”

Flyers could look for a short-term veteran defenseman

Tom Dougherty of NBC Sports Philadelphia: The Philadelphia Flyers will be without defenseman Andrew MacDonald for six weeks after he suffered a lower-body body injury while working out. That means he’ll likely miss at least six regular-season games.

Internal options to fill MacDonald’s spot could include Philippe Myers, T.J. Brennan, Reece Willcox, and Mark Friedman.

The Flyers could look to bring in a defenseman on a one-year deal.

Rangers would like Hayes long-term

Larry Brooks of the NY Post: Center Kevin Hayes signed a one-year deal this offseason to remain with the New York Rangers and will be an unrestricted free agent after the season. Rangers GM Jeff Gorton isn’t looking for it to be a ‘one-and-deal.’

“It is a one-year deal, but like I’ve told Kevin, we’d like to have him long-term. He’s said that he wants to be here, so let’s have him come to camp in great shape, be a leader, have a big season, and let’s go from there. Nothing is set in stone.”

The Rangers are not planning on bringing any veterans to training camp on a PTO.
