On the Pittsburgh Penguins …

Amir Basu: Pierre McGuire doesn’t see the Penguins keeping both Riley Sheahan and Derick Brassard. The Penguins could look to move Brassard to free up some more salary cap space and go big game hunting.

On the Vancouver Canucks …

TSN Radio Vancouver: Bob McKenzie on TSN 1040: “The marching orders in #Canucks organization, I would suspect, are…if they can add some veterans to stabilize, mentor, shepherd the young guys, I don’t think there’s any question they would like to do that. And Tobias Rieder is one guy Vancouver has been in on.”

TSN Radio Vancouver: Ray Ferraro on TSN 1040 on the Canucks: ” I’ve been really critical of what #canucks are doing at times, but they’re on the road map now. They have a really good plan rolling here. And to do what they did last year would be a mess. If you can add some balance to, great. If not, I wouldn’t worry about it.”

On the Carolina Hurricanes …

Chip Alexander: GM Don Waddell said it’s “100 percent” that goaltender Scott Darling will be with the Hurricanes next season. They’ve spoken with five or six goalies this week and will be looking to add one through free agency.

Chip Alexander: Waddell on the Jeff Skinner situation: “It’s ongoing. We’ve got a lot of people talking to us. We’ve had decent to good (trade) offers but we haven’t gotten comfortable yet.”

Chip Alexander: Waddell added that it’s likely that Cam Ward, Derek Ryan and Lee Stempniak will become free agents on July  1st.

Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer: Cam Ward’s agent, Rick Curran, said yesterday that five teams have been in contact about Ward, with three having “extensive interviews.” The Chicago Blackhawks were one of the teams.

There has been some speculation that Ward could sign a one-year, $3 million deal, possibly with the Blackhawks.
