Flyers targeting Quenneville
Anthony SanFilippo: (3:22 PM yesterday) Hearing that the Philadelphia Flyers could fire head coach Dave Hakstol in the next 24 years. The announcement of a new head coach may be delayed. They are targeting Joel Quenneville. If they fire Hakstol today there could be an interim coach for Tuesday.
Darren Dreger: (going off of SanFilippo) There had been no communication with Quenneville yet.
Dave Isaac of the Courier Post: Multiple sources saying the Flyers will fire Hakstol Sunday night or Monday morning. Sources saying Quenneville has been offered and will accept it.
Andy Strickland: (4:35 PM) Quenneville tells that the report that he took the Flyers coaching job is not true.
Darren Dreger: (4:38 PM) There had been no decision on Hakstol’s future, status quo for now.
Sam Carchidi: Hakstol said he still plans on coaching the Flyers today.
Rangers could still be sellers despite being in the playoff race
James O’Brien of NBC Sports: The New York Rangers are still in the playoff race and sit just outside, but despite that, it seems like they will become sellers at the trade deadline.
Mats Zuccarello and Kevin Hayes are pending UFAs. The Rangers could move Zuccarello at the deadline and look to re-sign him this offseason. Contending teams would definitely consider him. The Rangers should be able to get a nice haul of assets for Hayes. They could retain salary on either player to increase the return.
Chris Kreider ($4.625 million cap hit) and Vladislav Namestnikov ($4 million cap hit) have two years left on their deals and could be targets. Lesser players with two years left include Jesper Fast, Jimmy Vesey and Matt Beleskey.
Going bold would be to trade Henrik Lundqvist who has an $8.5 million cap hit through 2020-21. He may not want to leave New York.
The trade market for goalies could include the New York Islanders, Philadelphia Flyers, Carolina Hurricanes and possibly the Calgary Flames.
The Rangers could consider taking on a bad contract for an extra asset. They could also do the opposite and see if someone would take Marc Staal or Kevin Shattenkirk.
