NHL Rumors: Philadelphia Flyers and the Boston Bruins

On the Philadelphia Flyers …

CSN Philly: Do the Philadelphia Flyers consider signing Jaromir Jagr?

John Boruk – If they are interested, a one-year deal at $1 million could get it done.

Tom Dougherty – GM Ron Hextall said back in early July that signing a veteran would only block a young player and that it’s not a direction they wanted to go in. Jagr doesn’t seem to fit into the Flyers plans. still believes Jagr is a useful player and should be in the NHL. Teams may want to wait as long as possible before bringing him in.

Jordan Hall – Jagr would help the Flyers tangibly and intangibly, but they shouldn’t bring him in. It would be fun to have Jagr with the Flyers, but he’d be blocking a prospect from playing a bigger role.

Greg Paone – The Flyers don’t have roster spot or role for Jagr. A team who is closer to being a legit Stanley Cup contender could pick him up.

On the Boston Bruins and David Pastrnak …

Joe Haggerty of CSNNE: A few months ago it was thought that it would take a six-year deal at around $6 million per season to get David Pastrnak signed. If they go for a long-term contract, Pastrnak’s number will now be between $6 million and the $8.5 million that Leon Draisaitl received from the Edmonton Oilers. The Bruins and Pastrnak could also do short-term bridge deal.

It is possible that Pastrnak remains unsigned heading into training camp. Trading Pastrnak is almost an unthinkable option for the Bruins.

If the Bruins would for whatever reason consider trading Pastrnak, it would have to be for a young left-handed defenseman that could replace Zdeno Chara. Felger and Mazz mentioned someone like Carolina Hurricanes Noah Hanafin. At the 2015 NHL draft, GM Don Sweeney tried to trade up to draft Hanifin. notes that Hanifin hasn’t developed like many had thought he would.

If the Bruins were to trade Pastrnak, believes it would have to be for someone like Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Zach Werenski, and the Blue Jackets aren’t trading him.

Pastrnak is a perfect fit in Boston, and Sweeney needs to find a way to get him signed.
