On the Philadelphia Flyers …

Sam Carchidi: Flyers GM Ron Hextall on his head coach Dave Hakstol: “Dave Hakstol is our coach and will remain our coach. Period.” Hextall inferred beyond this season but didn’t specially say it.

John Boruk: “Just to confirm…Ron Hextall would not say through the remainder of the season…It would look pretty foolish to make that commitment if the team proceeded to lose their next 10-20 games or something to that extreme.”

On the Detroit Red Wings …

Ansar Khan of MLive: The Red Wings got pummeled 10-1 over the weekend and are winless in seven games. They’ve been outscored 36-14 over that stretch.

GM Ken Holland wouldn’t comment on head coach Jeff Blashill’s status on Sunday. After tonight’s game against the Jets, the Red Wings don’t play again until Saturday, so there could be time to make a change.

Holland has said that he has talked to some teams about a potential trade but added that a solution must come from within the room.

“Earlier in the year when we lost (six) in a row, that same team dug in and went 6-2-2.

“The answer for the most part has to be in the locker room. My responsibility is also to be in touch with the other managers in the league to see what’s out there. That’s been going on.”

The Red Wings have some big contracts on the books, and others with no-trade clauses. Not easy trades to make without retaining salary or taking back a bad contract.

They shouldn’t be looking to move any of their tradeable assets in Anthony Mantha, Dylan Larkin, Andreas Athanasiou and their first-round draft pick.

GM Holland’s future is also a little cloudy as he’s without a contract next season.

Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News: Jeff Blashill firing speculation has died down in the past day or two, but could pick up again if they lose tonight.

The players are saying it’s on them and not the coaches for the system.
