Looking at 24 players who could be trade candidates this offseason …
Rory Boylen of Sportsnet: Taking a look at some players who could be dealt this offseason if the right offer comes in.
Oscar Klefbom – Edmonton Oilers – Has been in the rumor mill for a while and has five years left on his deal at a $4.167 million salary cap hit. If the Oilers move him, they could be selling low.
P.K. Subban – Nashville Predators – Carries a $9 million salary cap hit. The Predators are loaded on the blue line and could move him if looking for more help up front. Predators have shot down the idea already.
Erik Karlsson – Ottawa Senators – A year away from free agency and could be looking for $10 plus million. The Senators could load up on futures.
Drew Doughty – Los Angeles Kings – Would be a tough decision for the Kings. The Kings are trying to re-tool on the fly. They could get a lot for him, but if they moved him, they’d immediately be looking for his replacement.
Justin Faulk and Jeff Skinner – Carolina Hurricanes – Everyone in Carolina except Sebastian Aho could be had. Faulk and Skinner are 26-years old. Faulk has two years left, Skinner one.
Ryan O’Reilly – Buffalo Sabres – Five years left at $7.5 million. The Sabres are looking to change their culture, and a change of scenery could be best for O’Reilly.
Alex Galchenyuk and Max Pacioretty – Montreal Canadiens – The Canadiens are in win-now mode but the futures of Galchenyuk and Pacioretty in Montreal are still up in the air. Pacioretty is a year away from free agency and could eye Evander Kane salary numbers.
Jake Gardiner – Toronto Maple Leafs – The Maple Leafs need to a improve their blue line this offseason. Would they move Gardiner for a more defensive minded defenseman? Gardiner is a year away from being a UFA.
Conor Sheary and Carl Hagelin – Pittsburgh Penguins – The Penguins are looking to make some changes this offseason. The Penguins need an upgrade on the blue line.
John Tavares – New York Islanders – If they find out they can’t re-sign him, they may look to trade his rights.
Andre Burakovsky – Washington Capitals – The winger has a year left at $3 million and they have UFA John Carlsson and RFAs Tom Wilson and Philipp Grubauer.
Nino Niederreiter and Charlie Coyle – Minnesota Wild – New GM Paul Fenton could be looking to make some changes. The Wild don’t plan on rebuilding.
Mathew Duba and Jonas Brodin – Minnesota Wild – Have had trade discussions in the past about them. Dumba role has increased, but he has a higher trade value. Brodin could be a more likely option though.
Dougie Hamilton – Calgary Flames – In the rumor mill already and would get serious trade interest. A $5.75 million cap hit for the next three years. The Flames need some scoring help at forward.
